Five reasons to come to the Cradle Colour Fest
If you’re looking for a unique way to celebrate Heritage Day this year, look no further. The Cradle of Humankind will be celebrating Heritage Day with its first-ever Cradle Colour Fest. Here’s why you should stop by …
1. The Cradle is the best place to celebrate Heritage Day
There are few better places to celebrate Heritage Day than where humanity’s origin story is being painstakingly reconstructed. The Cradle of Humankind is so named because it’s one of the richest fossil sites in the world, where some of the oldest and most fascinating hominin fossils have been found.
2. It’s at Maropeng’s Stone Park
Our Stone Park was designed and completed by award-winning landscaping firm FSG late last year. A rolling green landscape punctuated by striking granite pieces make the space contemplative and artistic. And it’s the ideal setting for the Cradle Colour Fest, which comes at the beginning of spring, one of the most beautiful times of year in the Cradle of Humankind.
3. You’ll get to celebrate South African artists
The event organiser, Rare pieces of the essence (Pty) Ltd, has put together a line-up of up-and-coming artists, musicians, fashion designers and dancers, who will be showing off their talent at the festival. DJ Dino Bravo and The Fossils are part of the line-up.
4. There’s a little something for everyone
Apart from a colour powder display, the Cradle Colour Fest will also feature live music, as well as fashion and food. Please note that festivalgoers are not allowed to bring food or drink to the event. But don’t worry, there will be a food market and bars on site.
5. You’ll have a whole lot of fun
Colour festivals are a feast for the eyes, but also great fun to take part in.
Did you know that the idea of throwing colourful powder in the air, completely covering yourself and those around you, actually has ancient roots? In fact, the colour festivals we see today are loosely based on an ancient festival that has been celebrated in India for centuries, called Holi, to mark the beginning of spring and the triumph of good over evil.
Because of the vibrant, striking colours and the fun that comes with playing with colourful powder, these festivals are being celebrated all over the world, and are seen as a joyful celebration of diversity.
